Auto shows are one of the more interesting things to do on a nice summer day. They can be found all over, some are outside in parking lots, shopping malls lots, or local parks but at the mercy to the weather and some are inside air conditioned environments like community centers or local businesses. Auto Shows are growing in popularity and numbers. Most auto shows are annual events held once or twice a year in the northern states and mid-west because they are limited to the five warm summer months. In the southern or western states they can have auto shows year round or again in air conditioned venues. I was totally impressed by the condition of the cars and trucks I saw in California and Nevada. The weather there is just perfect for preserving classic cars. Auto shows are a great way to get out an enjoy the summer weather looking at classic cars and trucks. Some owners of these cars have spent considerable time and money restoring and maintaining the cars, it's a labor of love for most that truly love the vehicle and it's great someone does. Have you been to a junk yard lately? That's where they would end up if not loved and maintained. They are regularly attended by automotive industry representatives, dealers, auto journalists as well as car enthusiasts. The current auto show, also known as a motor show or car show, is a public exhibition of current automobile models, older classic cars, debuts, concept cars, or out-of-production classics. Most auto shows occur once or twice a year and we would be happy to list any auto shows you suggest. Just click here to send us your recommendations for an auto show listing.
Please call before attending any community events to make sure they aren’t postponed or canceled as a result of the coronavirus.

Billed as the world’s largest automotive extravaganza, Charlotte AutoFair — produced and presented by the Hornets Nest Region, AACA — is the largest and greatest Collector Vehicle Event in the Southeast. The Hornets Nest Region is a unit of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA).
The Hornets Nest Region established Charlotte AutoFair in April 1978 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Region has continued to develop Charlotte AutoFair as the premier collector vehicle attraction in the country. Charlotte AutoFair has gained a worldwide reputation for being a well-organized, excellent presentation of a collector vehicle event. Success brought a second event — the Fall Event — beginning in 1990. The second event originally took place in September — and moved back to September beginning in 2012.
Now, each Spring (April) and Fall (September), the Hornets Nest Region, AACA presents a four-day event which includes thousands of Vendors selling collector vehicle parts, tires, glass, restoration supplies – offering something for every enthusiast, no matter their particular field of interest. Each event includes a wide range of parts vendors, collector car sales in the Car Corral, multiple car shows, a collector car auction and other unusual attractions.
In the Spring, Charlotte AutoFair is so huge with more than 10,000 Vendor spaces; it overflows outside the Speedway Infield to encompass the Green Flea Market and Red Flea Market Fields. The Fall event, with more than 8,000 Vendor spaces, also began to overflow the Speedway Infield a couple of years ago and now also includes a Green Flea Market Field.
Car Corral on the main track oval includes more than 1,200 collector vehicles for sale. The Fall (September) event also utilizes the Track oval for the Car Corral. In addition, during both the Spring and Fall events, some hobbyists sell collector vehicles on their Flea Market spaces. The result is that generally, possibly 2,500 collector vehicles can be expected to be for sale in the Spring and possibly 1,800 in the Fall.
The Hornets Nest Region, AACA presents, at each event, an Antique Car Show. The Spring AACA NATIONAL Car Show attracts approximately 350 vehicles for judging with the standards of the Antique Automobile Club of America. The term “Antique” includes original vehicles that are twenty-five years old, or older. All vehicles must be pre-registered with the AACA process.
The Fall “Region Auto Show – Original to Custom” attracts approximately 250 vehicles for judging. All vehicles must be pre-registered. Contact the Hornets Nest Region Office.
In addition, there are more than fifty other car clubs, which present their vehicles for display on Saturday and Sunday at each event. All vehicles must be pre-registered.
The two Speedway Garage areas are reserved for special attractions and cars of special interest. Past attractions have included California Customs, many other wild and crazy vehicles, and beautiful concept show cars from Ford – General Motors – Chrysler.
Please note: Friday and Saturday are always the busiest days of Charlotte AutoFair! Some Vendors will leave Saturday night and Sunday morning. Plan well ahead for lodging in the area. Rooms are at a premium the same as found at other large venues.

Hershey, Pennsylvania, may be well-known for chocolate, but it is also the host of a mid-June Concours event featuring some of the most beautiful vehicles of a bygone era. The vintage race is one of its signature events. A weekend celebration of a bygone era when the automobile stirred our imaginations and quickened our hearts. Plan your trip to allow time to take in Hersheypark, too. The festivities commence with The Grand Ascent, a vintage hill climb exhibition in the European tradition, where drivers pilot some of the finest historic race cars up the historic back road to The Hotel Hershey®. Modeled on similar events such as England’s Goodwood, and paying homage to ongoing events such as Mount Equinox and Pikes Peak, The Grand Ascent appeals to enthusiasts and curious spectators alike. Sanctioned by the Vintage Sports Car Club of America (VSCCA), the two-day hill climb event includes a sponsor /vendor area for marketing to participants and the general public.

Update for 2022 - We are sorry to inform everyone that as of this point, we will NOT be having Street Drags at The Milwaukee Mile this summer. When we began these events in 2018 we did so with an agreement that there would be no charge for parking. That changed in 2021 and we absorbed that expense only to have that fee raised again heading into 2022. The fee is such that these events are no longer financially feasible. We truly appreciate everyone that supported these events, building them into something fun for all of us each summer. It is our hope that Wisconsin State Fair Park will reconsider their parking fee structure and allow the return of Street Drags in the future.
This Year: Not Scheduled due to increased parking costs at the Wisconsin State Fair Park.
We will continue to host Street Drag events at Madison International Speedway and LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway.

Did you know that the Woodward Dream Cruise actually started as a small fundraiser to raise money for a soccer field in Ferndale, Michigan?
In August 1995, Nelson House and a group of volunteers looked to relive and recreate the nostalgic heydays of the 50s and 60s, when youth, music and Motor City steel roamed Woodward Avenue, America’s first highway. That year, 250,000 people participated—nearly ten times the number expected. The rest, as they say, is history.
Today, the Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day automotive event, drawing 1.5 million people and 40,000 classic cars each year from around the globe—from as far away as New Zealand, Australia, Japan and the former Soviet Union. North American cruisers from California, Georgia, Canada and all points in between caravan to Metro Detroit to participate in what has become, for many, an annual rite of summer.
Drivin’ from Drive-In to Drive-In
Ted’s, Totem Pole and The Varsity, Hollywood, Wigwam and Suzie Q’s, and, of course, Big Boy. These old-time drive-ins and restaurants that dotted Woodward Avenue were the places to see and be seen during an era remembered perhaps most famously by Hollywood in American Graffiti and Happy Days. These locations were the turnarounds, stopping points and social hangouts for the cruisers of the era.
Michigan’s first drive-in was located near Square Lake Road in Bloomfield Hills. Ted’s Drive Inn became a hangout and one of the avenue’s most popular destinations. It had begun in 1934 as a lunch wagon/trailer and was known for “the world’s largest hot dog,” priced at 35 cents.
The Totem Pole opened in Royal Oak in 1954 and featured a 16-foot totem pole hand carved by Ojibway Chief White Wolf of St. Ignace. The restaurant introduced the “Teletray,” a 2-way speaker through which customers could order the popular Big Chief Burger.
At these locales and others, roller-skating waitresses sporting white bobby socks and serving trays delivered hamburgers and milkshakes to duck-tailed greasers in leather and beauty queens sporting class rings and letter jackets. The real attractions, though, were the cars.Hot rods and muscle cars. Convertibles and hard tops. Oversized tires and custom-painted flames. These marvels of machinery were cool and hot; street machines that cruised Woodward emanating vintage rock and roll from the AM radio coupled with the rumble of a big block V8.
