Lithography helped us get Started
I am a retired Litho-Stripper also known as a film image assembler that spent 25 years in the print trade. After serving in the 82nd Airborne 2nd 325 ABN INF I decided to return to the print trade, so I started in the bindery at Chapman University - College Services Department back in the early 80s while going to college and was taught by some great teachers advanced pre-press and large press operation at Cal State Fullerton and worked at various companies moving my way up the chain. I was proud to work at Rayson Films in Waukesha where I saw some incredible film work, scanning, and color correction done. You had to be a real pro to work there, they had a pre-employment litho-stripper test to challenge any journeyman. But it was worth it to work with some of the best strippers in the area. Who would have guessed just around the corner were the first sci-tec systems to kick off desktop publishing and less than 5 years later you could buy a Mac for $5,000 that did the job of a $30,000 Sci-Tech System. I had to give up the light tables, but I marched on doing everything from Department Manager to Production Manager for so many good companies. I wish I could list them all. That was how you got a raise back then, you let someone recruit you away for your talent. That helped me learn so many levels of Lithography. I worked in the offset sheet feed shops, film houses, and even spent some time working around Web’s (WEAR YOUR HEARING PROTECTION PLEASE) and even spent some time making balloon films in flexography.

When I retired, I wanted to stay connected to my friends in the print trade. So, with my packaging connections we started Gift Basket Expressions and Moving Boxes Galore at movingboxes.org. We made some wonderful gift baskets and had some big accounts including the Milwaukee Brewers, but at some point, it seemed everyone was selling gift baskets, but our moving boxes seemed to be moving well, very well in fact we started calling ourselves the Low Price Leader back then and have not looked back once. In 1998 we opened GBE Packaging Supplies (GBE stands for Gift Basket Expressions) to offer print shops and really any business the ultimate inventory of stock shipping boxes, bubble, and pallet supplies so they could get just the right product they need at the lowest price.
Don’t cut down larger boxes when we are a custom box shop here for you. We can help you order the best size for your needs and reduce the time spent packing each job. My first 10 customers were print shops and that has grown from there. I always felt I had ink in my vanes I still wake up dreaming I was working on a 4 color American Express Brochure on the light table. Ask any print professional, you just don’t forget printing. Most of my friends are also retired now but the need is still there for a good packaging supplier. I would love to offer assistance whenever possible with print shops of all kinds. Shoot me an Email if you need help with a print packing issue. Don’t we all have old print stories! Well, if you are a print shop or bindery feel free to call or email us with your questions. We are here to help.
Corrugated Boxes for Printers
Some of my best friends in the print trade were salesman. My favorite uncle was a print salesman. In pre-press you bump heads with salesman a lot when the job they quoted as 2 hours pre-press took 5 hrs. because of massive spreads and chokes in the art that a salesman will miss every time, and they are now losing money from a company standpoint. My point is every step of a print job is quoted right down to the boxes they pack the finished job in.
Back then most companies bought one size box, and we did a lot of cutting boxes down but that is losing money because you paid for a larger box. It also does not look very professional to send out modified recycled looking boxes. Branding is everything and nice clean kraft or white boxes look better when you use the right size.
If you are shipping the box size is adding to the shipping cost with dimensional weights that the shippers are now charging, so the smallest box possible will save you money overall in shipping costs. I wanted to offer a service that allowed a company to buy any size they need and stock several sizes in fact and if you need a new size, we could ship those to you fast. So that’s what we are!
We have Free Will Call / Pick Up Service in 5 cities: Elgin IL, Dallas TX, Hazleton PA, Atlanta GA, and now in Rialto CA. We have some print shops that order pick up orders daily and they just have their trucks pick up the orders at the end of the day when they are coming back to their shop empty. They pick up bubble, mailers, edge protectors and more. It’s really a great service.

That can save you hundreds per order if you buy boxes or other packaging supplies and have them delivered. Large bubble rolls can cost $120 per roll to ship freight. Get a truckload for $79.
We also offer low-cost nation-wide shipping using standard ground services and free freight shipping if your order is large enough. See the freight map below to see what your free shipping level is.

Everything you print must be boxed, palletized and shipped or stored and in great condition, no excuses. Pallet edge protectors are a great product and chipboard sheets are great too as cover sheets to protect the load. Sometimes you have to transport palletized print jobs on skids from one shop to another for additional UV or poly coatings, or die cutting, and you don’t want offset or damage. Your shipping manager will want to have a good team with all the products they need to get the job transported safely. That’s no secret. We can help.

Printers that do short runs may be shipping the orders to their customers directly, which means you need to stock several sizes of boxes to cover your needs. We have about 50 sizes that are recommended for printers or binderies but we also stock over 1200 sizes of stock shipping boxes, plus corrugated mailers so you are sure to find the size you need and with next day shipping, we are like having a custom box store in house. Many of our customers sell promotional material or produce parts in tool and die shops so they need many box sizes. You want to keep the box size to a minimum; void fill adds to the cost so less or no void fill is always preferred and with the new dimensional weight charges the major shippers have started charging every inch in size equals more shipping costs. If you have your own trucks, you will need pallet supplies and DOT labels, pallet sheets, and more.
We started GBE Packaging in 1998 to sell boxes to Print Shops, Binderies, and Gift Basket Stores and we have grown since. Over 1200 sizes of stock shipping boxes print shops use along with corrugated mailers, tape, edge protectors, chipboard pads and sheets, resizing tools and so much more.
GBE Packaging is proud to be a Low Price Leader on the Internet for quality corrugated printers boxes. We stock many styles of corrugated shipping boxes that lithographers, print shops and bindery’s use daily, Sometimes you can save money by using the original stock paper box but when you cut the printed stock into post cards or business cards they will not fit in the original box and if the stock is cut and folded into brochures you will need boxes that will work with your bindery and pallet styles. Some customers may want jobs bundled with rubber bands or wrapped in numbered groups. You may have to add box dividers or pack the project in groups of 100 so the boxes you need could be any size really. We can help! We can help you find the right size box for your needs and suggest any void fill or packaging supplies that will help you pack or ship your contents safely.
